We are delighted to announce the recruitment of Oliver Smith, who joins us from Sharrow Bay on Ullswater, where he held the position of General Manager for three years.
Oliver has enjoyed an illustrious career in the industry including his time spent as General Manager of the Relais & Chateaux Amberley Castle in West Sussex, where he won an Acorn Award for his achievements.
On the appointment Oliver commented “having fallen in love with the breath-taking Cumbrian landscape during my time on Ullswater, I am thrilled to be joining The Samling. To arrive at such an exciting time for the hotel with the recent redevelopment having just been completed is the icing on the cake really.” Benefiting from recent investment into the hotel, the refurbishment of the rooms and the expansion of the restaurant’s offerings have enabled The Samling to reach the next level of luxury hospitality.
A spokesman for the hotel commented “We are looking forward to welcoming Oliver to the hotel. This news combined with the appointment of Peter Howarth from his role as Head Chef of the 2 Michelin Star Gidleigh Park signals a new chapter for the hotel.”
Current General Manager Alasdair Elwick will be leaving the hotel in December to pursue new ventures, on this move the spokesman continues, “Alasdair has been part of The Samling family for 6 years. Alasdair has helped us win numerous accolades over the years including the recent award of 4 AA Red Stars. We wish Alasdair all the best for the future.”
